ARS Celebrates 45th Anniversary in Toronto
The community got together on Sunday, January 27th to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Armenian Relief Society in Toronto. The MC for the evening Diana Hanimyan thanked the over 300 people who came out for the celebration for their support and encouragement.
ARS Toronto Chair Suzanne Najarian and invited guest keynote speaker, ARS Canada Region Chair, Arminé Karabetian from Montreal talked about the history of the ARS and work it does in the Armenian and Canadian communites.
The cultural part of the event included music by the traditional Armenian music band Horovel and the song Yerevan Tartsa by Roubina Keoshkerian and Krikor Shahmouradian.
Students from the ARS Day School presented a framed artwork they had made to the Toronto ARS executive in honour of their 45th anniversary.
Past chair Laura Mavlian lead the induction of 17 new members in saying their oaths in pledges of service.
No anniversary would be complete with cake and so senior member Anahid Jelderian along with new member Tamar Najarian lit the first two candles on the cake. 43 more candles were place by other supporters.
