April 24 Genocide Commemorations  A week of events took place to commemorate the 93rd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 where 1.5 million Armenians were killed by the Turks of the Ottoman empire. The community filled the Hamazkayin theatre on Sunday, April the 20th to listen to guest speaker George Shirinian and politicians from all three levels of government. Bus loads of people from Toronto, Cambridge, and Montreal converged on the nation’s capital, Ottawa to gather once again for this annual event. Over a thousand people filled the front lawn of the Parliament Buildings to hear the messages of our community leaders and well as the message from the Prime Minister. The crowd erupted into a loud applause when hearing the unwavering words of genocide recognition by the Canadian government. After the speaches, the crowd followed the flag bearers and the clergy on the march towards the Turkish Embassy. . The Armenian youth had prepared a presentation and the crowd got into the demonstration with loud chants of " NO MORE GENOCIDE", "WE WANT OUR LANDS BACK", and "WE DEMAND JUSTICE".
